Purpose

The Devices screen is the inventory of every registered terminal in your business: kitchen display screens (KDS), waiter and customer tablets, receipt/kitchen printers, POS terminals, cash registers, caller ID, barcode scanners and local bridge (local_bridge) devices. For each device you create a slot, connect the device using the pairing code it displays, and then monitor its status live. Device operations (print receipt, open drawer, cut paper) all run through these records.

The Devices screen is included in the free core — it needs no module and appears in the sidebar (under Multi-Branch) for the ADMIN and MANAGER roles. Authorization is always verified on the server.

Summary cards and the list

Three summary cards at the top of the page summarize your active (non-retired) device fleet:

  • Total devices — the count of all active (non-retired) devices.
  • Online — the number of devices currently in the online state.
  • Needs attention — the number of devices in the error or offline state (turns red when it isn’t zero).

Below them, a table lists each device with Type, Status, Pairing Code, Capabilities and Last Seen columns. The list refreshes itself at regular intervals; status changes appear without a manual reload. By default, retired devices are hidden; tick the “Show retired devices” box to include them in the list.

Adding a new device (slot + pairing)

Pairing happens on the device itself, not on a separate screen: the panel opens a slot and generates a pairing code, which you then enter on the device.

Pick a type and create a slot

From the dropdown in the top right, choose the device type (e.g. KDS screen, Waiter tablet, Receipt printer, Cash register, Local Bridge) and press Create Device Slot. The slot is created within the scope of the current branch.

Enter the code on the device

In the new row’s Pairing Code column, a short alphanumeric code and a QR that encodes it appear. Click the QR to enlarge it (192px) — use this to scan a screen across the dining room from a distance; the small QR is hard to read from more than about 30 cm away. Enter the code on the device, or on the local bridge that drives it.

Confirm the connection

Once pairing completes, the device receives its token; the row’s Status label flips to online and Last Seen updates.

The pairing code has an expiry time (visible when you hover over the QR). If it expires, the code becomes invalid; retire the slot and create a new one to generate a fresh code.

Statuses and device commands

The Status label reflects the device’s mesh state machine: online (green), offline (gray), error (red), busy (amber), maintenance (blue) and the hidden retired. For devices such as pending orders or printers, the Capabilities column lists which jobs they can perform.

Clicking the type name in the table opens the Device Commands drawer from the right. There you can review the device’s command queue with the Queued / In progress / Completed / Failed filters, read the error reason on a failed row, and — if the device looks unhealthy — send a one-off capability probe.

To take a device out of service, use the Retire button on the right of the row; after you confirm, the device is hidden from the list (and its token is invalidated).

A Local Bridge (local_bridge) device drives local hardware on your network, such as the receipt printer, cash drawer and cash register. For details on bridge setup and the hardware command flow, see Bridges and the hardware pairing guide Hardware.
