Install & download

The HummyTummy Desktop app is an installable program that runs your sales screen (POS) and your local hardware (receipt printer, cash drawer, cash register) on your own computer. Every version of the app is published centrally; all you do is download the package that matches your operating system and install it. The same package is shared by all restaurants — the version your team sees is always the latest published release.

If you’re not sure which operating system you’re on, the download page lists separate packages for Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Linux. Once you pick the right one, installation takes only a couple of minutes.

Pick the package for your platform

The download page shows a separate download link for each operating system:

Windows → .msi installer
macOS (Apple Silicon — M1/M2/M3) → .dmg
macOS (Intel) → .dmg
Linux → .deb package or .AppImage

On a Mac, check your chip first: open the Apple menu → “About This Mac”. If it says “Apple M…” choose the Apple Silicon package; if it says “Intel” choose the Intel one. Installing the wrong package may stop the app from opening.

If there’s no download link for a given operating system, that release simply hasn’t been built for that platform yet; wait for the next published package or contact support.

Installation steps

Download the package

On the download page, press the button that matches your operating system. Your browser saves the package to your “Downloads” folder. When the download finishes, double-click the file.

Complete the installation

Follow your operating system’s normal install flow:

Windows — the MSI wizard opens; click “Next” through the steps and finish with “Install”.
macOS — in the DMG window that opens, drag the app icon into your Applications folder.
Linux — install the .deb package with your software installer, or make the .AppImage executable and double-click it.

After the install finishes, launch HummyTummy Desktop and sign in with your panel account. On first launch the app runs an update check to make sure you’re on the latest version.

Staying on the latest version

Once you’ve installed the app you never have to re-download it by hand. When a new version is published, the app notices it on launch and updates itself safely. You can read how this works on the Auto-update page.
